The Sophisticated Traveler installed its inaugural exhibition on and in the Illinois River in the summer of 2003. Since it's inception, the group has installed a number of exhibitions in an array of settings throughout the central Illinois area. Consisting of primarily downstate emerging artists, TST has expanded to include artists from the Chicago area and has functioned as a kind of think-tank. For the 2004 Stray Show, the group will exhibit mixed media paintings and sculpture which are informed by the sublimity of the isolated, un-urban landscape. Current artists include: Angela Barker, Bill Conger, Ben Gardner, Kris Holmgren, Bob Jones, Steven Linksvayer, Matt Pulford, Matt Shalzi and Jason Sherman.
